I know this is an old head, and I know the COR is listed to be at .900, but with current testing focusing more on CT I was wondering if you ever did a CT test on this head to know what the exact CT is? I have one and I’m just curious to compare it to a few current non-conforming drivers on the market that only list CT numbers but not COR.

I am sorry but the 959OL driver was discontinued around 6 or 7 years ago. We no longer off a driver head that is over the limit for the CT of the face fopr golfers who do not ever play in competition because we got a lot of pressure from existing customers not to do that.

Tom..Love the 959 Driver!!! I have been playing with this model for years and I wish you would reintroduce it in your line up. Is it non conforming? (Yes) Is it tournament illegal (No) Only question that I have for the golf “Purest” Who actually drives the speed limit? Something’s are done just for the fun of it. Only food for thought? Thanks for the awesome products..Sincerely MEC

MEC When we had the 959 driver head in the product line, I thought all along that people would see this as nothing but an effort for us to offer a head to people who did not play tournaments or serious handicap posting golf – sheer enjoyment in other words. We did clearly state in the catalog that the 959 was non conforming to the COR rule and it should not be played in competition. But you know what? We still got tons of nasty, mean emails from golfers and clubmakers both, accusing me of facilitating “cheating” by offering this… Read more »

Are there any plans to bring back a non-conforming driver? As a clubmaker, my #1 selling driver the past 2 years running has been a non-conforming model from Hireko (the Juggernaut). I’m surprised that you said there just wasn’t a market for it, and maybe that was the case 3-4 years ago. But I feel these days the demand for a non-conforming driver is actually pretty strong.

JAMES I can tell you that the main reason we dropped the 959OL non conforming driver was because I began to detect that its presence in our product line was causing a negative feedback from enough traditionalists that their reaction was to look at us as a company as encouraging cheating. During the time we had that model, we did get a pretty fair number of comments and emails to that effect. Since the model never sold that much anyway, I chose to drop it out of a judgment that it would be better not to offer it than to… Read more »

I purchased a 10.5 degree 959 a coule f years ago and loved it. Now that I am in my 70’s and older han the grunI play with from the white tees the group is telling me to shave my 959 OL in rider o keep teeing off wth them n the same tees. We understand hat this driver is a non conforming club and my question is can that driver head be shaved. Why is it a non conforming Driver.

MONTE The 959OL is a non conforming head because we designed it with a thinner face to increase the face flexing to push the COR of the face higher than what is allowed in the rules. The thinner the face, the more the face can flex under any given clubhead speed. And the more the face flexes, the higher the COR of the face will be, which means a little more ball speed and distance for any given clubhead speed used to hit the shot. But there is a tricky balance between how thin the face can be vs what… Read more »

So the real question is, “Where do I find one today?”. I have heard great things about this company, and this driver in particular. I would really like to find one!

JD Our designs are available ONLY through certified custom clubmakers in the US and around the world. We are 100% committed to the belief that professional custom clubfitting, where all the key fitting specs for every club in the bag are properly matched to each golfer’s size, strength, athletic ability and swing characteristics, is FAR better for the golfer than buying the clubs off the rack in a retail golf store or pro shop or on line golf store. As such because the big golf stores and pro shops do not practice professional full specs custom clubfitting and clubmaking, you… Read more »

It said “discontinued model”
However, the comments are new, does this mean that this club head is still sold?

Yes, the 959OL driver model was discontinued in 2013 and all remaining inventory at that time was sold. We just decided the demand for a non conforming driver head was not enough to justify keeping the model active.

If you visit the FIND A CLUBFITTER LOCATOR on the middle of our home page at wishongolf.com. you can search to see if there is a clubmaker near you in the UK. If you cannot find a clubmaker from our locator near you, I then recommend you call DIAMOND GOLF INTERNATIONAL in West Sussex on 01903 726 999. Diamond is our stocking distributor in the UK and when you tell them you are looking for a good clubmaker to work with to be custom fit into the 959OL driver, they will be able to reference their list of clubmakers in… Read more »

I bought this driver head to give it a try and maybe use as a demo.
It is a great club. I would guess it has added about 10+ yards on my drives. And a couple of times this year when I really make a bit of extra turn on my back swing …. I crushed some drives. I have hit two drives recently of 260 and 255 yds and in play. I haven’t hit is that far in quite awhile (usual drives 210 – 220.
Club head is great looking and plays well.

By far the most yardage improvement of any driver I fit for…..10-15 yards is the average improvement for golfers custom fit with this clubhead in my shop (including myself), some report 20. It is a great head for recreational golfers (aka those who do not play to eat)

Personally, I had lost distance with my driver and like Jerry (above) decided to try it. I could not be more happy.
Added yardage and the head is workable to my desired shot.
Highly recommended

I brought this club head into my shop thinking I would sell it someone. The more I saw it sitting around I decided to built it for me, since I no longer could top 100 mph on my driver speed. I put a TW White R shaft in it and immediatly gained 10-15 yds per drive and always in the fairway. Since my buddies now see me hit it pass them they are clamering for me to build them one. So far I have built 4, and everyone of them will not give it up.
