If I remember correctly you were designing more than 1 new wedge series. Can you tell us a little bit more of the difference between them and your thinking behind design of wedges.
JOHAN Sure thing, happy to let you know what’s up with the two new wedge models. One is out now, the 309HCG. HCG stands for high center of gravity. This wedge is designed with a lot of mass up high on the head to pull the CG up higher than normal for a wedge. The purpose of that is to enable impact to occur BELOW the CG so there can be a slight vertical gear effect created from this action. Hello do any of your wedges come with a regular grafite shaft as I am an older golfer and I seem to play better with a grafite shafe
ROXY Thanks very much for your interest! I need to explain how we are totally different than the other golf companies that you are used to following. We sell our head, shaft and grip designs as separate component parts to certified custom clubmakers located around the US, Canada, and other foreign countries. The custom clubmakers are the ones who meet with each golfer, fit them and then custom build the components into finished custom fit clubs for each golfer that sees and works with them. Hi Tom, Hope all is well. I have some better players that are using the EQ1 NX SL iron. So far the feedback has been great, however, the “better players” are asking for a bladed SL option in the LW and SW. Would it be possible to remove about 18g to 20g of weight from the SW in this model? Given the fact carbon steel is 40% the density of tungsten, by my calculation 5.5 port holes of the same depth and diameter of the 9g tungsten weight available from Diamond Golf should do the trick. Yes, you can drill into the back of the sole section on the PCF Micro Pro wedges to remove weight. It certainly would help to have some sort of clamping apparatus to hold the head secure while you do that, though. YOu would not have to fill the holes with anything if you did not wish to. Nothing bad will happen if you don’t fill them in and having the holes back there is not going to change anything in terms of the feel of impact or anything like that.

I’ve been down this road with my own set of EQ1s and some customers as well. One concept that has worked for me and others – at least an option to consider: Drop the G/S/L EQ1 wedges to an inch less than your SL set, add a shaft that is 10-20 grams heavier than the SL set adding 9 grams of weight to the weight-port and add an 8-10 gram tip weight in the shaft, have them bent for lie angle as necessary. Hi Tom, since a 771 AW is not available in Left Hand, I was trying to fill in the gap between the 771 PW and a PCF micro pro 56 degree i tried to order the PCF micro pro series 52 degree bent to 51 degrees, but Diamond Golf said they are out of stock and don’t have plans to order anymore. Are these being discontinued. As far as I see there is not any GW/AW available for Left handers. Thanks Steve
Steve I am so sorry but you are catching us in an “in between time” with respect to the total offerings in our clubhead design line that has been brought about by yet again, the effects of the pandemic on businesses and industries. Thanks to the pandemic one of our major clubhead production factories fell way backward in their efficiency and delivery times to the point we just could not deal with it anymore. That required us, starting almost a year ago, to transition models and production away from them to a production factory that could meet our needs better.… Read more »

Renaud The new 309HCG wedges are supposed to arrive before the end of this year so Diamond should be set up to release them shortly after they get in. This is a wedge family designed with a high center of gravity. The technical concept is when you hit the ball so the CG is above the ball, this causes the head to very slightly rotate forward in what is called a vertical gear effect that can make the ball roll up the face a little more to generate a little more backspin. Dear Tom – I am slightly confused as to which wedge you would consider your “best” wedge. I had been told it was the PCF Pro but below you say the HM series. I have RTX 4 wedges and am looking for something similar, but custom fit. I’m not sure which wedge that would be. Many thanks indeed. Tom
TOM I should qualify whenever I say something about a head model that I personally like. I need to be careful with that to separate my personal view AS A PLAYER from my view as a DESIGNER. As a player I have specific likes and dislikes in head shapes, sizes, features and benefits, and so forth. Like every golfer. As a designer I do have to incorporate certain design elements on certain models that I as a player might not choose, but that I as a designer know that lots of other golfers would like that. First on that list would be the PCF wedges because they have the same face profile shape and have the zero bounce heel as well. But I would also tell you to take a good look at the HM Series wedges. While they have a more traditional tear drop shape face profile, I really like the sole design on them and I consider them the top wedge model in the current line.

thanks for your reply. I also have played the HM wedges and I prefer the CX. The turf on which I play tends to be soft. I prefer a full sole, that is, without trailing edge relief as I need to full bounce. Would the PCF Micro Pro fit that description?

Yes, the PCF Tour has the trailing edge design that you seek with full bounce across the entire sole from face to back, while the HM trailing edge tapers back downward.

Sorry if there was a mistake there on your post. Glad you persevered to re post!! There’s not a whole lot of difference between the Micro pro and Micro tour wedge models. Both have the same round profile shape for the face profile as you look down on it, both have the micro groove lines with circular milling, and both have the zero bounce heel side grind. Slight differences are in the Pro being slightly wider sole and the Tour having a little more face to back sole radius.

Play 50, 54, 58 degree wedges. My 58 is showing wear.. it is an original Cleveland 588: my 50 is Rtx 4 and the 54 is rtx 3. Jerry Kibler suggested yours.
Just curious why there is not a forged wedge offering from Wishon golf? Love the spin from the CNC milled faces, but not a huge fan of the feel. A forged version of the of the PCF would be amazing. Would the CNCmilled groves wear out quicker if the wedge was forged? Thanks!
Lance My very first forged carbon steel iron models, the 550C and 550M, both did have a sand wedge to go with the PW and gap wedge in both sets. When I started the design line that was my intention to do that with each successive model of a forged iron. But as it proved out, clubmakers and golfers all seemed to prefer shopping for a SW from either one of my standalone wedge families or from elsewhere. So with much less demand for the SW as a part of the forged iron sets, it just evolved over the years… Read more »
Tom, after listening to a MGS podcast about wedges and performance in wet conditions. Does your wedges lose spin like most others when wet? According to testers the Ping Glide 3.0 or the Mizuno T20 are the only two that did not lose spin when wet. Unfortunately they did not test yours. It may not be an issue but like their uncovering how inconsistent golf balls are made when cut open we golfers don’t need more inconsistency when playing this challenging game.
