I’m considering buying a 2 or 3 hybrid iron in order to switch with my Di590 2 iron depending what kind of course I play.
I love the Di590 from the tee but it can be difficult from the rough.
I think I read you are planning to release some new hybrids. Anything you can share? Also maybe the different thinking behind the 318 and 775hs
Johan First of all, we’re undergoing a big change in the hybrid offerings from Wishon Golf through 2023. The 318RS is being replaced by the new 319RS, the 775s are being replaced by the new 797, and we are introducing a third new hybrid in the 370CLA. 319 will essentially be the same as the 318 with twin rails on the sole. The foundry that made the 318 went by the wayside as a victim of the off and on shutdowns for Covid and it was just too difficult to try to move the tooling from a shut down factory… Read more »
Tom; I have a 318 4 and 5 hybrid made by Tim Mosel. I also have 949 7 and 5 wood and 11 Degree THI in the bag. It took me a long time to get used to the 4, but am now hitting it consistently 180 to 185 yds. I hit the 7 wood over 190 plus consistently. Would it make sense to switch my 949 7 wood to the 318 RS 3 hybrid in order to have a more consistent swing path? If it helps, Tim says I am more of a Swing type rather than a hitter… Read more »
BILL It sounds as if one of these two clubs, either the 318-4 or the 949-7 is a redundant club in your bag. With the 7w being 21* loft and the 318-4 being 25* loft, on paper you would think that there should be more of a distance difference. For many golfers there would be, but it is very possible that the higher loft of the 4hyb just happens to match your clubhead speed and your swing characteristics such that the ball launches higher and then stays in the air longer at the higher launch to end up carrying about… Read more »
What descent angle could be expected for -5, based on a typical 6I SS of 59 mph?
SHARON There are other variables involved in determining or estimating the angle of descent for a shot. But for a broad estimation based on the -5 angle of attack with 59mph clubhead speed, the angle of descent would have to be under 35* because both those elements are definitely working together to prevent the angle of decent from being very high at all. The -5 A of A delofts the club at impact which lowers the trajectory and angle of descent, and the 59mph clubhead speed is not enough to generate enough spin or ball speed to get the ball… Read more »

DAN Thanks for stopping by with your interest. No, at present none of our hybrid models are tooled up beyond a #6. Back in 2005 I designed a full set of hybrids from #2 to PW and the demand was very heavily skewed toward the #2 to 6 with virtually no interest in the 7 to PW. At the same time I realize things have changed from that long ago so we may put it on the “to-do” list for the future for at least a #7 to add to one of the existing hybrid design models.
