Tom, I just found a 915 CFE 360cc driver. Thought I would experiment with it as a “mini driver”. It is a right hand HL version. What loft is it? Are there any other specs you can share as I am sure this goes back “beyond legacy”. I still play the 770 CFE irons and the old 919 11 degree driver to much success (as much as a 71 year old can have). Bob
BOB That brings back memories!! That was just before the trend toward much larger driver head volume took hold, because we offered the 915CFE in a 320cc, 360cc and we even were “daring for the time” by offering a 420cc version!! 3-4 years later you couldn’t give away a 360cc size driver! HA! The 360 version was offered in RH in 9 and 10.5 lofts, LH in 10.5. All three had a 0.5* closed face angle spec. Only the 320 version was 0 square, because back then better players opted for smaller size drivers. Believe that? And the 915CFEs were… Read more »
Mr Wishon, I have a 915CFE 420 with a Grafalloy Blue shaft in LH. I have aged some since it was made for me. Should I refit the club to my current swing since it has been so long, and maybe get a different shaft or should this still work for me? This year when I hit the ball I get a loud titanium sounding ping from it and I think my clubhead speed has increased. Do you know what his club is ideal for? Low/high speed, etc? Love it!!
Peter Wow, that is taking a trip back through time since that head was introduced in 2003 or 4, if memory serves me right. I don’t recall it ever had a loud impact sound so I am at a loss to explain what you say you hear when you hit it. BAck then a little bit of CLINK sound was preferable to the market where today that is less so. So current driver models in our line such as the 919, 719, 519 would not have much of a CLINK. But never have I designed a titanium driver that was… Read more »
Great! Thank you for the advice; read some of the following posts and I think the 919THI sounds like a great option if my “Old Warhorse” exhibits failure. The titanuim you selectd looks to be superior to many other alloys out there, so I may have my driver for a while longer! I will get my swing calc’d and will contact you on your website for options. Thanks Again!
does ANYONE have this driver with a InterFLEXX Graphite shaft for sale? I’m desperately looking for one!
Roberto That is going to be a difficult request to fill because the 915CFE driver was discontinued way back in 2006. WHile the Interflexx shafts did stay in the line longer than that, they too were dropped from the line before 2010. This comments section is not seen by very many people because you have to access each product individually to see the comments. I would recommend that you try to contact the AGCP (Association of Golf CLubfitting Professionals) and ask them if they would put your request with your contact number on their member forum. All their members see… Read more »
I was fitted years ago with a 915CFE and have always loved it. My shaft was a Wishon 9TQC S flex. Do you have the specifics on that shaft? CPMs, torque, etc?
JASON That has been a while since the days of the 915CFE and the 9TQC shaft! Fortunately we did input the shaft into our Bend Profile data base so I can tell you that the S flex version is characterized as being fairly butt stiff but with a mid and tip section design that is medium firm and not tip stiff. So it is more on the slightly unusual side since not too many shafts go outside of a norm for butt stiffness anymore, with more experimentation being done with the tip end stiffness. The actual bend profile CPM measurements… Read more »
I’ve just got hold of a 915 head and fitted it too a True Temper A shaft cut to 43.5 inch, I swing driver at 80-85mph and am worried I’ve cut it too short and the swing weight will be too light, would this be correct?
DAVE How light the swingweight is depends on many factors in addition to the length. The shaft weight, grip weight are the other key elements to determining what the swingweight will be. Then of course there is your personal sense of feel during the swing as to whether you feel the presence of the head enough or not. Too light of a swingweight means you tend to get too quick and lose control and struggle with trying to hit shots on center. Without a swingweight scale to reference to, your only option is going to be hitting shots after the… Read more »
Tom,
Is the 915CFE 360cc driver fine for high handicappers?
Jeff
JEFF
if the loft angle and the face angle of the driver head fits the golfer’s swing speed, angle of attack, swing path and face delivery at impact, then ANY driver head can be made to fit ANY golfer. Beyond that, whether a driver performs well for the golfer is a matter of whether the other key fitting factors of length, shaft weight, shaft flex, shaft bend profile, total weight, swingweight and grip size are well fit to the golfer’s swing characteristics.
TOM
Love to get a new one, only driver I’ve had for the past 12 years, won’t use another driver, just found 2 stress cracks , simply the BEST!!!
MATT 12 yrs is a pretty good life for a titanium driver and it sounds like it was a good life from what you say about its performance. Since you have liked everything about that driver, and since the 915CFE was discontinued quite long ago (which means no more exist here), let me suggest a course of action to get a driver in your hands that can play as well as this one. Send us the driver. We’ll measure EVERY specification on the club to the gnat’s rear end. We’ll measure and find one of our current 919THI driver heads… Read more »
I can’t even begin to tell you how many of these heads I’ve sold to golfers struggling with a slice! A time-tested head. I personally know golfers who didn’t quit the game because of this clubhead design.
The 915CFE early version. 420cc. I have a personal interest in this great driver as it is the “driver” in my bag. Using a “Steelfiber” shaft with proper swing weight, length, and flex, I can still get respectable comments from younger players in my flight. A high percentage of center rolling hits and great yardage to make the second shot easy. I am over 80 years of age.
A great driver head, Tom.
Chris.
